1. Nouvelles de l’Action Thématique Cosmologie et Galaxies (ATCG)

Suite à la réforme introduite cette année à l’INSU, l’action thématique Cosmologie et Galaxies (ATCG) du PN ASTRO “remplace” le PNCG, en conservant des structures et missions similaires,en particulier l’évaluation des projets en réponse à l’appel d’offres du PN ASTRO, l’animation de notre communauté ou encore la participation aux exercices de prospective.
Le Conseil d’Expert Scientifique (CES) de l’ATCG est désormais en place. Il est constitué de 16 membres (Samuel Boissier, Nicolas Clerc, Jonathan Freundlich, Raphael Gavazzi, Adélie Gorce, Nadège Lagarde, Guilhem Lavaux, Patrick de Laverny, Benjamin Magnelli, Christian Marinoni, Paola di Matteo, Anne-Laure Melchior, Jean-Baptiste Melin, Nicolas Ponthieu, Karl-Joakim Rosdahl, Pauline Zarouk) couvrant l’ensemble des domaines de recherche de l’ATCG, c-à-d, le modèle d’Univers, formation et évolution des grandes structures, formation et evolution des galaxies, et l’archéologie et matière noire galactique. L’ATCG est coordonnée par un coordinateur membre de la CSAA (Samuel Boissier), et un co-coordinateur (Benjamin Magnelli).

2. Atelier SF2A S09: Étudier l’évolution des galaxies et la cosmologie dans la perspective des futurs grands observatoires, juillet 2, 2025, Toulouse (France)

Les relevés spectroscopiques massifs transformeront des pans entiers de l’astronomie, allant de l’archéologie galactique à la mesure des paramètres cosmologiques et en passant par l’étude de la nature de l’énergie noire. De même, le SKA ouvrira la voie à l’étude de la réionisation et à sa tomographie, et fournira une vue inédite et fondamentale du gaz HI dans les galaxies depuis l’Univers local jusqu’au midi cosmique (z~2). L’ELT, quant à lui, nous permettra de disséquer l’émission des galaxies les plus lointaines, d’étudier en détail la dynamique galactique au-delà de l’Univers local et les populations stellaires des galaxies proches.
Le futur n’ayant jamais été si proche, le besoin de structuration et de préparation de notre communauté est aujourd’hui criant alors même qu’il existe de nombreuses opportunités de synergies méthodologiques et scientifiques. C’est dans ce contexte que nous organisons un atelier autour des quatre axes de l’ATCG (modèle d’Univers, formation et évolution des grandes structures, formation et évolution des galaxies, galaxies proches : archéologie et matière noire galactique) réunissant ainsi des équipes travaillant sur des sujets scientifiques variés mais liés aux interfaces et, surtout, partageant des outils et des méthodologies qui pourraient (et devraient) être mis en commun.

4. French AtLAST days – May 12th-14th – Amphithéâtre Pierre-Gilles De Gennes, université Paris Cité

AtLAST (Atacama Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope) is a groundbreaking initiative to develop a 50-meter submillimeter and millimeter-wave telescope on the Chajnantor Plateau in Chile. As part of the ESO “Expanding Horizon” framework, this project is poised to deliver transformational science while pioneering sustainability through renewable energy and environmental considerations.
We are organizing an AtLAST event in Paris on May 12-14 (with hybrid participation available). The ultimate goal is to discuss the role of France in supporting and contributing to this project, including instrumental or software developments and the exploration of its scientific potential. The AtLAST team will present the current status of the project within the European context. Critical questions about environmental and societal aspects, ensuring that AtLAST aligns with these contemporary challenges will also be addressed.

9. Post-doctoral positions on extremely metal-deficient galaxies at AIM and IAP

The AIM and IAP astrophysics laboratories announce two postdoctoral positions on star-forming galaxies in the framework of the French-Swiss collaborative project “speXion” co-funded by the ANR and SNSF.
The overall goal of speXion is to perform a coherent study of extremely metal-deficient galaxies (XMDs) in order to understand the radiation field dominating these galaxies up to X-rays, to characterize the nature, influence of energetic sources and the associated feedback processes, and to understand the contribution of XMDs to cosmic reionization. The collaboration will use multi-wavelength observations from JWST, HST, XMM, Chandra, VLA, and other facilities, as well as state-of-the-art spectral modeling tools.
The post-doctoral positions associated with the speXion collaboration concern:
– ANR/AIM post-doctoral project (coordinated by Dr. V. Lebouteiller; see https://aas.org/jobregister/ad/d3a7d7fc and https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR7158-VIALEB-002/Default.aspx for the details): design a method to infer the intrinsic EUV-to-X-ray spectrum of XMDs from ISM signatures in the UV-optical-IR domain.
– ANR/IAP post-doctoral project (coordinated by Dr. H. Atek; see https://emploi.cnrs.fr/Offres/CDD/UMR7095-HAKATE-002/Default.aspx for the details): confront spectral model predictions with a set of LyC observations to establish a robust method able to predict the escape fraction of ionizing photons in star-forming galaxies and their contribution to cosmic reionization.
– SNSF/Geneva post-doctoral project (coordinated by Prof. Daniel Schaerer; see https://aas.org/jobregister/ad/8b56239f for the details): construct a multi-wavelength reference sample at low- and intermediate redshift, analyze and interpret interstellar medium signatures of these galaxies through empirical diagnostics and intricate models.
