—————————————————————————————-
The French Action Thématique de Cosmologie et Galaxies (ATCG) organizes a national conference on Oct 12-14 2026 at the Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris (IAP) and Observatory of Paris (ObsPM) on galaxy formation and evolution, nearby galaxies, and Galactic archeology.
We particularly encourage researchers funded by the ATCG, students, postdocs, and young researchers in France or with ties to the French community to present their work. Registration is free of charge. We have limited funds to support travel to Paris for those giving presentations — please ask when registering if needed.
We accept registrations and abstract submissions here: https://jgatcg26.sciencesconf.org
Key themes:
- The first galaxies
- Chemical enrichment and primordial gas
- Statistical properties of galaxies
- Interaction between galaxies and their environment
- Galaxy groups and cluster
- Nearby galaxies
- Galactic archeology
- Star formation and the interstellar medium
- Stellar populations
- Galactic dynamics and dark matter
- Simulations
- AI, neural networks and data science

3. Summer School: “5th edition of the MaNiTou Summer School on Gravitational Waves”, 29 June – 4 July 2026, Universite Cote d’Azur, Campus Valrose, Nice, France
—————————————————————————————-
We are pleased to announce that the 5th edition of the MaNiTou Summer School on Gravitational Waves will be hosted in Nice from June 29th to July 4th 2026. The school will cover the emerging field of gravitational wave detection and of its scientific exploitation. The goal of the school is to provide the students with a solid introduction to most aspects of this interdisciplinary field in fast expansion. The school is open primarily to Master and PhD students, and also to young (and not so young) scientists who would like to get better acquainted with gravitational waves.
Registrations are now open until April 10th, 2026.
Please note that the school offers accommodation free of charge for up to 50 master and PhD students. The school being labelled as “Ecole Thématique CNRS”, note that for CNRS employees, travel and stay expenses will be covered by the CNRS.
Registration and further information are available at the following website:
Looking forward to seeing you in Nice!

4. Workshop: “Unifying Galactic and Extragalactic Views of Star Formation – Spectroscopic studies & Data Science”, 20-24 April 2026, IAP, Paris, France
—————————————————————————————-
This is the second announcement for the upcoming workshop “Unifying Galactic and Extragalactic Views of Star Formation – Spectroscopic Studies & Data Science” . This workshop will take place at Institut d’Astrophysique de Paris from April 20th to April 24th. We will also broadcast the conference for registered participants through zoom.
The objectives of this workshop, at the interface between astronomy and data science, are to discuss spectroscopic studies of molecular clouds both locally in the Milky Way and in nearby galaxies. A focus will be put on the challenges posed by the analysis of large spectroscopic data sets, thanks to interdisciplinary discussions between data scientists and astronomers.
Research topics to be discussed at the conference will include:
- Multi-line observations of the Milky Way and nearby galaxies;
- Chemistry, magnetic field and star formation;
- Inverse problems, regularization and information theory;
- Statistical & Bayesian inference, machine learning and neural networks.
We welcome submission for oral contributions before 2026 March 6th in the evening (new deadline).
